The H.I. Lincoln Building Story

Below you will find copies of some of the e-mails I have recieved from people who have visted the LHA of Illinois web site. For privacy reasons I have not included their last names or e-mail addresses. If you would like to get in touch with them please send me a note and I will forward your information to them.

Ron of Fulton:

My Mother who is 93 has a red, white and blue bar lapel pin that says L T C on it. It was probably my Grandfather's, he was a stock salesman for Lincoln Tire Co. that was located in Fulton, Illinois in a building that is still standing and is known as the Cullen Co. I remember the Lincoln Highway concrete marker on the corner of the property, near the intersection of Route 30 and 80 then, now it is just south of 136 and 84 as they have been remarked. We used to call the intersection there the "Y". I grew up on 15th Avenue which was also Lincoln Highway and each street intersection was elevated creating great wading pools during heavy summer rains. I know there is another marker near the Forest Inn East of Morrison, I think that emblem is gone though. My family always talked about the many cars that had to be pulled from the mud in front of the Olson farm between "Cottonwood" and "Twin Oaks". Just some ramblings, enjoy Lincoln Highway.

JC from Joliet:

Hi there, when I was about 4 years old, I remember going to the Cuckoo Clock fast food restaurant located along US 30 (Cass St.) in Joliet, IL at the intersection of Collins St. I was wondering if you or any of your Lincoln Highway mates had any photos or information on that. I guess this existed in the 1960's to the early 1970's and was a popular hang-out for the Joliet Township high school kids. Hopefully, you can find someone who has photos of this and could add them to this site! Thank you,

Cliff:

Just finished Pete Davies' AMERICAN ROAD and am interested in:
1. VHS of the U.S. Army's 1919 Motor Train crossing
2. publications with photos of the 1919 event
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff:

I know that it\'s Rt.30.But looking at a map of the area, in Dekalb the main st. through town is named Lincoln Highway. How did this road become another Lincoln Highway?
